Joseph was the son of Thomas Paine and his wife Mary Snow probably born in Eastham, Plymouth Colony. His birth date is estimated to have been sometime after April 1666, based on the order of the children as listed in their father's will and the fact that his next oldest brother, James, was born 6 July 1665.[1]
He married Patience Sparrow 27 May 1691 at Eastham, Barnstable, Massachusetts Bay.[2] "Joseph Paine and Patience Sparrow were Married togather: May 27th 1691 :"[3][4]
Joseph Paine Sr. died (intestate) on 1 October 1712 at Eastham.[5] The estate of Ensign Joseph Paine of Harwich was inventoried on 16 November 1712. His widow, Patience, was appointed administratrix of his estate 27 January 1713 and on 14 April of that year the estate was divided among Patience and all of the children.[6][7]
There were at least eleven children from this marriage, all recorded in Harwich, the first four also in Eastham:[1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:
Joseph died in 1712. He could not have had a son (Nathaniel) born in 1730. I suggest that they be disconnected. [Edit:] Have removed Nathaniel as son. Probably the son of Ebenezer.
Paine-1662 and Paine-87 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents' names (dups pending merge). Same spouse, also pending merge. Same death info. Please merge
