Biography

Phebe was born about 1712. In 1744 she married Hugh Douglas. They had 7 children. Phebe died before 22 Aug 1781.

PHEBE PAINE, (John, Ralph), was born in Freetown and died there after 5 February 1763 but before 22 August 1781. Her marriage intention of 28 January 1743/4 calls her Phebe, but her marriage record calls her "Philip." She married in Freetown on 23 February 1743/4 HUGH DOUGLAS, who was born in Swansea on 17 August 1719 and died before 3 November 1781 when his will was probated in Bristol County. He was the son of John and Agnes ( ) Douglas. He married second on 22 August 1781 the widow Rebecca Hathaway of Freetown. She married on 6 February 1800 as her third husband Joseph Read. ["Douglas" PGN [2]; Reg. 20:213 [3]: VR Freetown [4].]

89. v. Rebecca, married George Chase (1753–1787). May have married John Conley aft 27 Dec 1793.
90. vi. Daniel Douglas (1761-1818), b. 1761.
91. vii. Job, d.n.m.; d.y.?
