Marriage GRO ref is 4 515. On 25 July 1847 William married Mary Ann Paley in St Mary's Battersea, registered at Wandsworth. His mother Mary Keen and her father Thomas Paley millwright were witnesses. William's address was 67 Seymour Place, Bryanston Square.

1851 Census William age 36 leather setter, wife Mary 36, son Henry 15 shop boy.

1861 Census William age 46 leather setter at 51 Packington St, Islington, wife Mary 46, Eliza Paley age 9 niece. Also lodgers Henry Ellen 21 and his brother Stephen 23 both boot manufacturers.

1871 Census William born 1815 boot rivetter, wife Mary of Battersea age 56 boot rivetter, Walter Yeowell scholar age 10, Jane Read widow age 49 no occupation, Charles Read 17 her son, a clerk, Henry Hewson 30 bus conductor, his wife Frances Hewson 30 bus conductor, Ellen Grace 56 widow, mother-in-law of the Hewsons. I think William must have had TB and his wife took in young Walter to have some family in the house, and also took in lodgers for an income.

1871 William age 56 rivetter of Islington in St Peter's Hospital, Bonner St, Bethnal Green. This is now the London Chest Hospital and was then mostly for TB patients.

20 March 1872 William died at 183 Essex Road. His eldest brother Thomas and his wife Mary Ann contested probate for his estate in a court case Keen v Keen. Mary Ann won.

1872 William has two death GRO references: 1b 271 and 1b 274, both registered in Islington. I think his death was registered by both his brother Thomas and wife Mary Ann as they had a dispute about his will. The death GRO refs give his age as 55 at death though he was actually 57.

1881 Electoral roll shows Mary Ann Keen living @ 183 Essex Road.
