Biography

Cecilia "Celia" Palmer was the daughter of Charles Willard "Will" Palmer and Mary Ann (Freeman) Palmer and was born December 6, 1868 on the family farm located in Sperry Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She was the oldest of four children; her siblings were Warren Isaac, Francis "Frank" Willard, and Florence Freeman Palmer. The family moved to Kansas in 1874 after having lived in Clayton County for a number of years. They developed a farm near Haddam, Washington County near the Nebraska state border. It was here that she married Homer Norton Butler (her cousin) on December 13, 1886. The couple had four children: Abbie Laverne, Leon A., Eleanor Marie and Harold Willard. In March of 1889 they went to Yesler, King County, Washington Territory and lived in the Seattle area and at Charleston (Bremerton) until 1918. They lived in Washington State for over forty years. Both reaching their senior years, Homer, Celia and two of their children, Eleanor and Harold, moved to the eastside of Washington to Sunnyside, Yakima County, where they spent their remaining years. Celia deid on January 28, 1931 and Homer died on November 1, 1933, both in Yakima. They are buried at Tahoma Cemetery located in Yakima, Yakima County, Washington. Celia was sixty-two years of age at the time of her death.
