Biography

This John Palmer was born 17 Mar 1668/69 in the Plymouth Colony [1],[2]. His father is best identified as the John Palmer (abt.1640-) who was native also of Plymouth. This is to distinguish him from John Palmer Jr. (abt.1630-1708), who immigrated from England, and became a freeman in 1657 [3].

The mother of this John Palmer probably was Sarah (Randall; abt.1640-aft.1693), although no firm evidence has been presented to date which would definitively tie them.

This John Palmer married 20 Dec 1694 in Scituate, Plymouth (by that time merged with Massachusetts Bay colony), Mary Rose (1674 - 1747). Their children were:

  1. Hannah (Palmer; 1695-1756) [4]; married Benjamin Curtis
  2. Ruth (Palmer; 1699-1772) [5]; married Jacob Baylie
  3. Mary (Palmer; 1704-) [6]; married Joseph Curtis
  4. John Palmer (1706-bef.1794); married Jane Doty
  5. Patience (Palmer; 1710-) [7]; married Amos Sylvester

There may have been other children not yet substantiated with evidence.

Notes

Regarding the father of this John Palmer, an online family searching database attaches the same seven children, in consistent birth order as listed in the Hanover town history, to Sarah Randall, thus implying that both John Palmer profiles cited above pertain to her husband [8]. This conjunction led to a merge proposal for the John Palmer profiles which has been pending for some time, ever since the merge on Sarah's profile was completed in 2017. Whereas the merge has been voluntarily discontinued at this time, if evidence may arise to substantiate that the two John Palmers were one in the same person, then the merge should be re-initiated.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

John Palmer-1866 appears to be the same person as John Palmer-10708. Each John Palmer marries a Rose on 20 Dec 1694. Review of the first hundred (of 264) images of a roll of Scituate film (exhausting 1600s info) shows no other John Palmer born around 1669. It shows a marriage on 20 Dec 1694 of John Palmer to Mary Rose [image 23]. It shows children of John Palmer Jr and Mary Rose between 1695 and 1712[86]. It shows the birth of Patient Roose [probably 1668] as one of three children of Thomas Roose, but no birth of Mary Rose[57]. Patient Rose and Mary Rose may have been different people or not; Mary Rose married John Palmer. Separately, we know the mother of John Palmer is Sarah Randall because Sarah's father William Randall named Sarah Palmer in his will in 1692.
