Hey Julie, just wanted to reach out and say hello. I can see that we are related through DNA by Captain William Polk. Interestingly, my Grandfather George Merritt Polk Jr does not share any DNA segments with you but I do. https://app.gedmatch.com/v_compare1.php?kit1=DX631930C1&kit2=KP7361560

Hi, Luke! It's always great to "meet" a cousin! I love that GEDMatch estimates 7.5 generations to the our MRCA (William Polk). It's exactly 8 for me, so maybe 7 for you?

I have a fondness for William Polk, who was my original patriot for joining DAR, but his WIFE Sarah (aka Sabra)! She's the 3rd great granddaughter of gateway ancestor, John Fisher, through the Bradfords. I'm a lineage society geek (because researching specific ancestors for a lineage society helps me focus, and placing ancestors in history is tremendous fun), and I've been completely geeked out on John Fisher's descendants and antecedents for several years.

Based on the initial chapters of The Cleggs of Old Chatham, I suspect that there's also much to pursue up the tree from William in the Polk/Pollock, but I haven't started any of that yet.

If any of this ^^ is news to you, feel free to contact me through the email address you should be able to see in GEDMatch.

Hello Julie,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or special event. Read the goals and tasks of the project and join if it is a good fit.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

How's everything going?

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Hi Julie

A warm welcome to the Wikitree Family. By now you will have received an email with useful links to get you started. Take your time and browse the site to see what Wikitree has to offer.

Wikitree is different, because we have one goal: To have one big Global tree. This means we have one profile per person, and we collaborate as one big team.

When you confirm your email address, you will have the opportunity to volunteer by adding tags to your profile. These should contain what interests you in your genealogy: surnames, locations, etc.

A Greeter will then confirm your membership, and you will be able to start adding your information.

We are all volunteers here and happy to help if you need it.

I look forward to seeing you in the tree :)

Happy researching

Wendy?
