Rupert was born in 1888, the son of Reynolds Palmer and Mary McDonald. [1]
Rupert enlisted in the AIF at Albert Park Victoria: Rupert was originally in the 5th Battalion, Service Number 486, he asked for a transfer to the 8th Australian Infantry Battalion, which was granted on the 28 February 1915, at Mena, Egypt, he wished to be with his brother Philip Joseph. Rupert was also given a new Service Number: 1212, Rank: Private. Rupert was killed by a shell, which apparently also injured another soldier named MacKay or MacKie (writing is hard to read). Phillip according to family tradition saw his brother Killed by this shell.
He was killed in action in 1915, aged 24. Cemetery or memorial details: Helles Memorial, Cape Helles, Gallipoli Peninsula, Canakkale Province, Turkey.[2]
