Biography Obituary: Last Rites for Lester E. Palmer Held on Monday Former Executive in Cement Plant at Stroh and Osborne Ohio Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock for Lester E. Palmer, 67, from the Methodist church in Auburn, of which he was a member, with Rev. Van Hinkley, the Pastor officiating. Burial in the Edon Cemetery Mr. Palmer passed away at his late home in Sedan Friday afternoon at 2:00 as the result of a prolonged illness due to a heart ailment. The body was taken tot he Kendallville Mortuary and was returned to the home Saturday evening where it remained until time for the funeral. He was born at Edon, Ohio, March 24, 1877. He spent his early life in Edon and vicinity where he taught school in Edon and surrounding community. In 1903 he began working for the Wabash Portland Cement Co. at Stroh, soon after the plant was built. He became interested in the study of forestry engineering under the civil service regulations and spent three years in the state of Idaho when he was transferred to the Agriculture Department and Plant Industry at Washington D. C. While in Washington he attended the George Washington University night school and graduated from the law department, but never practice law. Later he returned to Stroh and became the work manager for the cement plants at Stroh and Osborne, Ohio, which was owned and operated by the Wabash Portland Cement Plant. In 1926 he was transferred to Osborne, and devoted most of his time to the Osborne plant. While residing in Osborne, he became a charter member of the Osborn Rotary club and was a past president of the club. He was retired in 1940 for his seniority and faithful service to the company. He then moved to Sedan, four miles west of Waterloo, where he purchased some farm land occupying the old Hine homestead formerly occupied by Horatio Hine, grandfather of Sallie Hine, daughter of Charles Hine of Edon, who became the wife of Mr. Palmer June 8, 1904. They became the parents of one daughter and three sons, Mrs. E. S Wones of Osborne, Ohio, Emerson Palmer of Fairfield, and Charles Palmer of Rockford Illinois. . . . unreadable. . . . Waterloo Lions Club Continued from page one was honored by being elected president . . . but he resigned on account of his failing health. Mr. Palmer was well known in Waterloo where he had a wide circle of friends. He possessed a brilliant mind and was conversant in literature, history and other subjects of interest. In his studies he collected a vast knowledge from one of the best private libraries in this vicinity. He loved his books, loved nature and he loved his friends. His faith in true mankind was never shaken, his integrity was never questioned; his every day habits held him in the confidence of his real friends.
