Biography

Occupation

Occupation: 1st King of Pamplona

Note

Ancestor of the Queens of England, France, and Sicily, and Queen of the Romans, daughters of Raymond Berengar IV of Provence and Beatrice of Savoy.
Ancestor of Eleanor of Castile, Queen of King Edward I.
Wikipedia: His origin is obscure, but his patronymic indicates that he was the son of an Íñigo. His mother also married Musa ibn Fortun ibn Qasi, by whom she was mother of Musa ibn Musa head of the Banu Qasi and Moslem ruler of Tuleda, one of the chief lords of Valley of the Ebro. Due to this relationship, Íñigo and his kin frequently acted in alliance with Musa ibn Musa and this relationship allowed Íñigo to extend his influence over large territories in the Pirenean valleys. The name of the wife (or wives) of Íñigo is not reported in contemporary records, although chronicles from centuries later assign her the name of Toda or Oneca.

Research Notes

The Research Notes added 13 Aug 2019, have been substituted with this section, R Notes, 17 Aug 2019.

While researching another profile, that of Aisha bint Abdul aka bint Abdul, it was noticed that Íñigo Arista, sometimes referred to as Íñigo Iñíguez Arista (++see below), appeared in WikiTree with two wives, Ónneca, who was his mother, not his wife, and that there were an additional two profiles for Ónneca that needed to be merged as well: [1]

Merges have been initiated for the four profiles listed above; Ónneca Unknown , (previously UNKNOWN-114558), is the file that should be left afterwards. For further details, please consult Ónneca's profile.

As to Íñigo Arista's profile, on 17 Aug 2019, his middle name was left blank (was "Arista"), and "Arista" included in the CLN field, replacing "de Pamplona". His father, Jiménez-86, was left as is, his mother, N-155, removed from his profile but left as his father's wife, and Unknown-482495 added as his mother, & also as Jiménez-86's wife.

(++) Regarding the name Íñigo Iñíguez, it comes from reliable Arabic text in which he is referred to as "Wannaqo ben Wannaqo", the equivalent to Íñigo Íñiguez. In this case the patronymic may refer more to the lineage rather than the parent. His father's name is said to have been (tentatively) Íñigo Jiménez. The patronymic, Jiménez, is uncertain and probably comes from a less reliable monastic source created much later. Arista (cognomen Aresta) was actually a nickname but has stuck as his surname. [1]

1º rey de Pamplona entre los años 810/820 y 852 Conde de Bigorra y de Sobrarbe

Jiménez de Pamplona-2 and Pamplona-5 appear to represent the same person because: intended to be the same person, added without appropriate certification, but, lineage is the same.

His Grandfather was Of_Pamplona-15, Jimeno, born c745

The father's profile (Pamplona-25) has been merged into his own profile. His father's name was Inigo Jimenez Arista Pamplona, born c765, married to the mother listed here.

I will disconnect the mistaken father.

There is a problem with the father. Clicking on it just brings us back to this profile. I will try to fix it.

Pamplona-25 and Pamplona-5 appear to represent the same person because: There is only one Inigo 'Arista' but different theories as to the name of his father, thus we get Inigo Jimenez and Inigo Iniguez but they must be the same not father and son.

Arista-1 and Pamplona-5 appear to represent the same person because: These two profiles are the same based on name. Pamplona-5 is currently attached to incorrect parents and will need to be detached from them first. He can't be the son of a Garcia if his patronymic is Iniguez

Pamplona-33 and Pamplona-5 appear to represent the same person because: These profiles have the same name and should be merged. Pamplona-5 is currently attached to incorrect parents (can't be the son of a Garcia if his patronymic is Iniguez) and will need to be detached from them first.

Arista-1 and Pamplona-33 are not ready to be merged because: Pamplona-5 appears to be the same person, based on identical name, though it is currently attached to incorrect parents. Arista-1 and Pamplona-33 should be merged with that profile.

Navarre-94 and Pamplona-25 appear to represent the same person because: Same person. Same son.
