Newspaper story about 1937

WINDSOR JUNCTION, Oct. 10— Charles Parker, 75, retired C.N.R. employee, suffered severe burns to head, face and arms Wednesday morning when he waited long enough inside his burning home to save the funds of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic church of which he is treasurer. - As the result of his burns he was removed to the Halifax Infirmary where his condition was at 'first reported "serious," but was said 'to show improvement today. Only other person in the house at the time an overheated chimney was said to have caused the blaze was his daughter, Mrs. Arthur O'Leary who escaped out an upstairs window to the roof of a sun porch. She was aided to safety by Station Master Dam Gillls and Harry Stephens, Mail courier, and C. N. R. employees Stan Levy and George Lee. Mr. O'Leary had left for the city where he is employed as a Customs Officer and the two O'Leary children were at school:. C. N. R. employees drawing water from the nearby water tank succeeded in controlling the fire but not before the interior of the house was badly gutted and a quantity of the furniture damaged. Mrs. O'Leary suffered slight burns on her face and hands. Sandy Burgess .
