Research Notes

(This is very flow of consciousness)

Very curious. If he was born in 1764, he would have been 19 when the revolution ended, that's quite young to be a captain. He is listed in Mass Soldiers and Sailors (Vol 11 p900) as 17 years old in 1780/81. That works - but not listed as Captain - is that from 1812?

The March wedding date to Mary Stockwell is the intentions date, Douglas vital records gives their actual marriage as Nov 10, 1785[1]. He is described as "of Sutton". Checking Sutton Vital Records, I do not find his birth.

Family Search gives his birth as 22 March 1764 in Douglas - I do not find that birth in Douglas Vital Records. Family Search gives his parents as Thomas Parker 1736-1808 and Mary White 1741-1808. The son of Samuel 1701-1754, a Reading Parker.

FamilySearch is conflating two Thomas Parkers - one born in Groton in 1736 the other in Sutton in 1733. [2] (I have since detached the Groton Thomas on Family Search)

A Sutton Thomas Parker marries Mary White in 1761[3]

Thomas and Mary have children in Sutton[4]:

  1. Polly Jan 10, 1761
  2. Betty Jun 22, 1763
  3. John Feb 7, 1767
  4. Lucy (twin) Mar 10 1770
  5. Parly Mar 10, 1770
  6. Roby Mar 29, 1773
  7. Fally Sep 5 1775

Samuel would have been born exactly 9 months after Betty? And not been recorded in Vital Records - when his siblings on either side had been? I find that hard to believe. Looking at the vital records, they have obviously been reconstructed after the fact.[5] There is, however a 4 year gap between children there when their pattern seems to be 2-3 years.

There is a Samuel Parker in Sutton in 1731[6] Also 1716[7] - one of the original settlers. Thomas Parker and Mary White are mentioned on p254 as well as three of their daughters "Mary, Roby and Falla"

These are Samuel Parker married to Hannah Wyman who had a son Thomas in Sutton: "son of Samuel and Hannah b Apr 27, 1733" [8]

Samuel, Thomas and a William are the only Parkers having children in Sutton. It is likely that this Samuel is the son of Thomas (or perhaps WIlliam). The other Samuel is a previous generation.

Who is William? Only one child and no wife listed? I can't find him.

It is likely that Samuel is the son of Thomas Parker and Mary White and just not recorded in Vital Records.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Samuel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Samuel:
