Pecos Parker was born about 1851 in present day Staked Plains, Lubbock, Texas, the son of Peta N. Nocona and Cynthia A. Parker. [1] He was the brother of Quanah Parker and Toh-Tsee-Ah Parker. His brother, Quanah, was the last free chief of the Comanche. [2]
Pecos' mother was an American whose family was massacred by a band of Comanches. [3] Cynthia Ann, 9 years old at the time, was adopted by the Comanche and lived with them for 24 years.[4][5] She married a Comanche Chieftain, Peta Nocona, Pecos' father.
Pecos' mother was recaptured during the Battle of Pease River on December 18, 1860. [6] She was returned to her family in Texas, along with Topsannah. She did not adjust and worried about her sons. In 1863, Topsannah caught influenza and died of pneumonia. Cynthia, unable to bear the loss, began refusing food, water and assistance. She died in March 1871.[7]
Pecos died 1863 in Plains, Yoakum, Texas, United States. His body was lost or destroyed.[8] His mother, brother and sister were reinterred in 1957 and are currently buried on Chief's Knoll, Fort Sill Post Cemetery, Fort Sill, Comanche County, Oklahoma.[9]
