Biography

Esther was christened on April 27, 1794, at St John Timberhill, Norwich by her parents James and Mary (née Howard)[1].

The Norfolk Online Record Search database lists nine children of James and Mary christened at St John Timberhill, all with her maiden name given, from Esther in 1794 to John in 1810. These included three consecutive christenings for William in 1801, 1802, and 1803 (the first was buried at St John de Sepulchre, the third may also have been buried there in 1805; no record for the second has been found). James Parker married Mary Howard at St John de Sepulchre, Norwich in 1784, but no record for a child has been found between then and the christening of Esther. No family members were listed on the marriage record and there are multiple possible christening records for each of them.

She married William at St John the Baptist, Maddermarket on July 23, 1815[2]. The witnesses were Hannah Riseborough, assumed to be his sister, and James Parker, probably her father or her brother. There are actually two IGI records for the marriage of William and Esther, one for the banns in August/September 1814 and one for the marriage in July 1815. The reason for the delay in the marriage is unknown.

She died in 1877 at Aylsham[3] and was buried at Coltishall on November 3[4].

Research Notes

Most likely records for James Parker:

1759 Norwich, St Etheldreda, John & Ann
1750 Norwich, St Martin at Oak, Thomas & Mary

And for Mary Howard:

1753 Norwich, St Martin at Oak, Charles & Mary
1761 Norwich, St John Timberhill, James & Mary
1765 Norwich, St Simon and St Jude, James & Mary
1751 Norwich, St Augustine, John & Mary
1755 Norwich, St James with Pockthorpe, James & Mary
1750 Norwich, St Peter Hungate, William & Rose
1763 Norwich, St Swithin, Robert & Elizabeth
1752 Norwich, St Peter Parmentergate, no parents
1759 Norwich, St Margaret, James & Mary
1750 Norwich, St John de Sepulchre, Stephen & Elizabeth
1755 Norwich, St Peter Mancroft, William & Mary

Since they married at St John de Sepulchre it seems most likely that was where Mary was born in 1750. That would suggest the 1750 date for James as well.
