Biography

John was born 1672 in Dublin, Ireland. He fought for William of Orange at the Battle of the Boyne and also at Blenheim, Marlborough's greatest victory (1704) and also under Prince Eugene.

His name appears as Ensign in Colonel Tatton's Regiment of Foot/ Lieutenant 1709, and in the Blenheim Prize Rolls 1704. He became Captain before 1724 and was admitted at the Royal Hospital, Kilmainhan October 1739 as a decayed, maimed and ancient officer.

John Parr's family was part of that "upper crust" that was formed in Ireland during the 17th Century by the immigration of English nobility.

He married Eleanor, daughter of Daniel Clements of Rath Kenny, County of Cavan.

He had three sons and two daughters. The sons Peter, Samuel Clements and John all served in the army. Their youngest son John became the Lt Governor of Nova Scotia.

John lived to the age of 92, dying in Dublin, Ireland in 1764.
