Albion Parris is Notable.

PARRIS, Albion Keith, (cousin of Virgil Delphini Parris), a Representative from Massachusetts and a Senator from Maine; born in Hebron, Maine (at that time a part of Massachusetts), January 19, 1788. Albion Keith Parris (1788-1857) was born in Hebron and graduated from Dartmouth College in 1806.

Admitted to the bar in 1806, he settled in Paris Hill. In 1815 he won a seat in Congress, while Maine was still part of Massachusetts. He was a leader in the push for Maine statehood.

Parris served as governor of Maine from 1822 to 1827 when he was appointed a U.S. Senator. However, he resigned the following year to become associate justice of the Supreme Judicial Court of Maine.

After returning he was elected Mayor of Portland in opposition to the Maine Liquor Law.[2]

Albion Parris was also the first president of the Maine Historical Society from 1822 to 1823.

Education

Graduated from Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H., in 1806; Studied law with Judge Ezekiel Whitman then living in New Gloucester and was admitted to the bar in 1809; he commenced practice in Paris, Maine,

Marriage

In 1810, he married Sarah Whitman, the eldest daughter of the Reverend Levi Whitman of Wellfleet. Sarah was a first cousin of Judge Ezekiel Whitman whom Albion had studied law. He had four daughters and two sons, all except one daughter survived him.[3]

1819: Delegate to the Maine constitutional convention
1820-1821: Judge of probate for Cumberland County, Maine, ;
1822-1827: Governor of Maine;
1827-1828: Elected to the United States Senate from Maine and served from March 4, 1827, to August 26, 1828, when he resigned;
1828-1836: Judge of the supreme court of Maine
1836-1850: Second Comptroller of the United States Treasury ;
1852: Mayor of Portland, Maine, ; was not a candidate for reelection; :1854: Unsuccessful Democratic candidate for Governor in Maine;
1857: Died in Portland, Maine, (February 11, 1857) ; interment in Western Cemetery.
