Biography

Elizabeth Parrish was the daughter of Edward Parrish and Mary Parish. She was born about 1692 based on the fact that she was the mother of three children when she was mentioned in the will of her father. [1]

The marriage of Jacob Duhataway, son of Jacob & Margaret late of Anne Arundel County deceased and Elizabeth Parrish, the daughter of Edward & Mary Parrish of Anne Arundel County now living at the meeting house in West River on 16 NOV 1712 is recorded among the records of West River Quakers. [2]

Jacob Duhadway was deceased by 15 FEB 1726 when his will was probated. Elizabeth & Jacob were the parents of 3 sons & 2 daughters

An abstract of the will follows: Jacob Duhadway of Anne Arundel County:

  • I give all my land unto my two sons Jacob & Edward Duhadway between them equally without regard to quantity.
  • my negro woman and her children go to my children as expressed in the will of my father-in-law, Edward Parrish, provided the executors of the said Parrish pay unto my wife the sum of £20 sterling which sum is plain by his will a legacy to me & the said £20 I give unto my wife in lieu of her third part of the above negro woman & children, but if the same be not paid then the negro woman & children to pass with the remainder of my estate.
  • After my debts and legacies have been paid the remainder of my personal estate be equally divided into three parts, 1/3 I give to my loving wife and the other 2/3 I give to be equally divided between all my children including that or those my wife is now big of.
  • I appoint my loving wife Elizabeth Duhadway to be sole executrix of my will. I request my well esteemed friend Joseph Galloway to be overseer.

Signed with his signature 20 FEB 1723/4 and witnessed by: John Steward, John Galloway, Joseph Galloway and Deborah Edwards. Probated 15 FEB 1726. (All of the witnesses were Quakers). [3]

Elizabeth was deceased by 17 APR 1727 and left as will as follows: Elizabeth Duhadway of Anne Arundel County widow:

  • to my youngest son, Thomas Duhadway except legacies hereafter given.
  • all my wearing apparel to be equally divided between my two daughters, Mary & Margaret Duhadway to be delivered for their use by the persons who I have appointed to have care of them during their minority.
  • my son Thomas and my daughter to live and be brought up by my dear mother, Mary Parrish.
  • my daughter Mary may live with & be brought up by Joseph Richardson and his wife Rebecca.
  • the care of my other two sons, Jacob and Edward Duhadway, I leave whollly to my good friend Joseph Galloway whom I make my sole executor.

Signed with her mark the 20th day of the first month called March 1726/27 and witnessed by Joseph Rabbling, Mary Maccubbin, Frances Lands. Probated 17 APR 1727. [4]
