Biography

Jeffrey Parsons was born on 25 Jan 1660/1 in Gloucester, Massachusetts Bay Colony. He was the son of Jefferey and Sara Parsons.^[1][2]

Jeffery Parsons and Abigail were married before 1693.

Jeffrey and Abigail had six children:

• Josiah Parsons (b. Feb 1693/4; d. as an infant, perhaps Mar 1693/4)
• Sarah Parsons (b. 20 Feb 1694/5)
• Jonathan Parsons (bp. before 1703, First Parish Church)
• Samuel Parsons (bp. before 1703, First Parish Church)
• Jeremiah Parsons (b. 26 Mar 1697)
• Abigail Parsons (b. 31 May 1699; d. 5 Feb 1699/1700)

Abigail Parsons died in June of 1734, in Gloucester.^[3]

Jeffrey died after June of 1734.

"2. JAMES^ PARSONS (Jeffrey) was baptized at Loddiswell, Devonshire, 1 June 1599, and was buried there 21 July 1670. He married there, 3 November 1621, ALICE CROSSING [?], whose surname is nearly illegible in the parish register. Crossing seems the most plausible of several possibilities. The 1569 Muster Roll for Devon lists several men named Crossen or Crossyn, and the 1641 Protestation Roll for Devon includes several Crossings Record of Alice's burial has not been found.

i. JAMES, bp, Dec. 1622; buried 18 Feb. 1622/3

ii. ELIZABETH, bp, July 1624

iii. JOHN, bp. 14 Oct. 1627; m. MARY _____. They had a son, Jacob, bp. 18 March 1658.

4. iv. JEFFERY, bp. 1 Aug 1630; m. in New England SARAH VINSON.

5. v. JAMES, b. probably ca. 1633; m. ELIZABETH GEILES.

vi. MARGARET, bp. 1 May 1636; buried 15 July 1636."

"4. JEFFERY PARSONS (James^, Jeffrey) was baptized at Loddiswell, Devonshire, 1 August 1630 and died at Gloucester, Massachusetts, 16 August 1689. He married at Gloucester, 11 November 1657, SARAH VINSON, daughter of William and Sarah _____ Vinson. The long-sought after riddle of his relationship to Bridget Varney appears to rest with the fact that his wife was Bridget's stepgranddaughter. Bridget's daughter, Rachel (Varney) (Cook) Langton, married as his second wife and her third husband, Sarah's father, William Vinson.

i. JAMES, b. 18 Dec. 1658 (Gloucester VRs, 1:514); d. as "Elder James Parsons," 1 Oct 1733 in his 75th yr (ibid., 3:230); m. 18 Dec. 1688 HANNAH YOUNGLOVE of Ipswich, who d. 11 March 1732/3 aged 78 yrs (ibid., 3:230) SG PAR 36 calls him a prominent citizen, town clerk for several years.

ii. JEFFREY, b. 25: 11 m 1660 [Jan 1660/1] (Gloucester VRs, 1:515); m. ABIGAIL YOUNGLOVE.

iii. SARAH, b. 19 April 1663 (ibid., 1:524); m. JOHN LEE (S PAR 37).

iv. JOHN, b. 14 May 1666 (ibid.); 1 Dec. 1714 (Gloucester VRs, 3:231); m. (1) 19 Jan 1693 ISABELLA HAINES of Rowley (ibid.), who d. 25 Nov. 1700 (Gloucester VRs, 3:230); m. (2) at Ipswich, 29 July 1701, SARAH NORTON (ibid., 2:402), who d. 25 July 1726, aged 56 yrs"
