Guy Edward Parsons was born 9 Aug 1893 in Randolph County, North Carolina to Julius Woolen Parsons and Flora Loudeska Robbins. [1] [2]
In 1900, Guy was listed on the US Census in his parents’ household in Randleman township, Randolph County, North Carolina. Guy had attended school for two months and could read. He had two younger siblings: Kate Elgin Parsons, age 5, and Howgil Julian Parsons, age 2.[3]
In 1910, Guy was the oldest of 6 kids living with his parents in Randleman. He was unemployed, but his father worked for a soft drink manufacturer and Kate, his sister, worked for a cotton mill.[4]
Guy submitted his registration card for World War I with a birth year of 1892. All other documents support 1893 as his birth year. He worked for the railroad in East Spencer, Rowan County, North Carolina, but still resided in Randleman. Guy was single and without dependents.
It is presumed that his work on the railroad caused Guy to miss the 1920 and 1930 US Census records.[5]
In 1940, Guy was living with his widowed mother, Flora, and sister, Kate, in Randleman. He was employed as a flag man for the railroad. He reported $1500 for his 1939 annual income.[6]
On 12 May 1942 Guy married Lacy Iola Walden of Sumner, Guilford County, North Carolina, in Cheraw, South Carolina.[7] Information on living children is omitted.
Guy died on 6 March 1965 in East Spencer from emphysema. He had retired as a Conductor from Southern Railroad only a few years prior to his death. Guy was buried on 8 March 1965 at Burnett’s Chapel Methodist Church cemetery.[8] The affiliation with Burnett’s Chapel was through his wife’s family, as the majority of his family is interred at Mt. Lebanon Methodist in Randleman.[9]
