Biography

Clara Jane Parsons was born in Sauk County (“town[ship] of Baraboo”) 14 Oct 1855. She moved with her family to Iowa: first McGregor (1863), then Rockford Township in Floyd County (~1874), She married (Willard) Wiley Coon 21 Feb 1877 in McGregor. They lived in Garretson (mostly) and Madison, South Dakota, then Estherville, Iowa, then they ranched near Steele, North Dakota. In 1908 (1910?) they moved to Corvallis, Oregon. Finally they lived in Corvallis Heights. They had 4 children. She died in Corvallis 4 May 1927.

According to her obituary she was survived by husband, three children, three brothers and five sisters, and ten grandchildren.

Their children were (1) (Mary) Alice Coon (1878 SD-1919 OR) who married Hubert Adams and had 2 children; (2) Willard Britnell Coon (1879 SD-1942 OR) who married Ida Mae Riggs and had 1 child, (3) George Bertram "Bert" Coon (1881 SD-1967 OR) who married Lana Jane Heuerman (1905), Catherine Tinkham (after 1944), and Clara Gunsallas (1948) and had 4 children by Lana, and (4) Abbie Rozella Coon (1891 SD-1981 AB) who married Robert F. Williams and had 3 children. [Please delete the foregoing when profiles are created.] As of 2017 the large Coon "tribe," widespread in the Pacific Northwest and Alberta, remain close-knit, with almost annual gatherings in Oregon or Washington.
