Nancy was born in about 1824 in Kentucky. She was the daughter of George Parsons and Susannah (Campbell) Parsons.^[1]

In 1850 Nancy (age about 26) was living in , Floyd, Kentucky.^[1]

When Nancy was about 26 she married John Smith on 13 February 1850 in , Floyd, Kentucky. The couple had 6 children: George W. Smith, William L. Smith, James A. Smith, Jonathan Smith, Lydia Smith and Susan Smith.^[2]
