Biography

Ebenezer was a merchant. With the start of the Revolutionary war he transferred his business to Newburyport and engaged in privateering where he made a great deal of money.

Refusing to insure his ships Ebenezer suffered great losses causing him to retire from business, move to Byfield and buy a farm.

  • Vol. 50, Page 63: "Eben Parsons died in his country home Nov. 2, 1819, at the age of 74 years. His remains, with those of other members of the family rest in a tomb in the old Byfield cemetery... Of thirteen children born to Mr. and Mrs. Eben Parsons, ... only one who survived the years of childhood" was Gorham Parsons b.July 27, 1768.
  • Page 259: "he engaged in fishing, off Cape Ann; he prospered, and soon owned several vessels, and became one of the largest importers, and had the reuptation of being a 'Princely Merchant'".
