Biography

The year of birth of Thomas Parsons alias Fayerbrother is unknown and is estimated as c 1527.

The first name of his father is unknown. It is presumed his mother was Margaret Bonner, sister of Bishop Edmund Bonner.

Held at the Worcestershire Archives are three documents dated 1573 that concern the sale of a dwelling called Bonersplace in severnende within the Lordship of Hanley and land belonging to the dwelling, also situated in Hanley, Worcestershire, by Thomas Parsons alias Ffayrbrother esquire of Stortford, Hertfordshire to Margery Lechmer, widow of Hanley, Worcestershire.[1][2][3] The documents state that Thomas Parsons was the son and heir of Margaret Montioye and that Margaret was late the wife of Phillip Montioye and the sister and sole heir of Edmund Bonner, Bishop of London, deceased.

Presumably Thomas Parsons alias Fayerbrother was a son of Margaret Bonner by a marriage prior to her marriage to Phillip Mountjoy.

He married Joane[4], surname unknown, date and place unknown.

Thomas Parsons, Esq. was a Churchwarden at Bishops Stortford in 1566 and 1567.[10]

The house and manorial buildings of the manor of Stepney and Hackney (a residence of the Bishop of London) were leased by Thomas Parsons alias Fairbrother from 1568.[11]

Thomas Parsons alias Fayerbrother esquire of Stortford, Hertfordshire was a Supervisor of the will of William Mountjoy.[12] William Mountjoy referred to Thomas Fayerbrother as his brother.

The manor of Harringay or Hornsey, Middlesex: "The tolls belonging to the bishop in Hornsey in 1318 were probably at Highgate ... The lease was held in 1590 by Thomas Parsons and William Mountjoy, under a lease of the reversion in 1559, and from 1601 to 1606 by Thomas Mountjoy.[13]

In the will of John Gybbe, Gentleman of Stortford, Hertfordshire, the will made on 07 May 1588 and proved on 04 Nov 1597[14] he referred to his 'brother' Thomas Parsons alias Fayerbrother Esquire, and the sons and daughters of his 'brother' William Mountioye alias Moungey gent deceased (perhaps John Gybbe had married Joan Mountjoy or Joan Parsons alias Fayerbrother).
