Biography

Isaac Patch (who has no middle name) died at Groton, Massachusetts by 26 January 1756 when his estate entered probate.[1]

Date of birth is 27 Feb 1715/16.

Isaac Patch and Joanna Butterfield resided in Groton.

Isaac Patch, Jr. of Groton did not leave a will. On 6 January 1756, Isaac Patch father of Isaac, requested that James Prescott of Westford be named administrator of his son’s estate as Isaac left no widow and all his children were minors. Real estate was house and barn valued at £13.6.8 and 35 acres of land valued at £60. Total estate valued was £119.6.6. When son Isaac Patch reached age 21 years, he petitioned the Court for division of the property. Ephraim Wesson, guardian of four of the children, also signed the petition. Accounting made for division on 25 August 1761 gave real estate value of £41.9.8. Distribution was made to Isaac the eldest and Stephen, Abraham, Hannah, Phebe, and Esther.[2]

On 9 October 1756, Isaac Patch in the 17th year of his age and Hannah Patch in the 15th year of her age children of Isaac Patch, Jr. made choice of Ephraim Wesson as guardian. Isaac Patch, grandfather of the deceased’s children, agreed that Ephraim Wesson should be named as guardian to children Phebe, Edith, Esther, and Abraham not being of age to make choice for themselves. On 20 Jan 1764, Stephen Patch minor of about 15 years of age made choice of James Prescott as guardian. On 29 December 1766, Esther Patch in her 16th year requested that Jonathan Lawrence of Littleton be named her guardian related to her inheritance. On 4 September 1767, Abraham Patch who was fourteen years of age on 3 March 1767 made choice of Jonathan Lawrence as guardian.[3]

Joanna and Isaac were parents of seven children born at Groton.

  1. Isaac married Elizabeth Avery
  2. Hannah married David Archibald
  3. Phebe married Gershom Hobat
  4. Edeth died between 1756 and 1761
  5. Stephen married Thankful Bennett
  6. Esther was living at Littleton in 1766
  7. Abraham married Sarah Tenney

Research Note

Note on marriage: There is an Isaac Patch who married Mary Hastin in 1748, but that seems to be Isaac's father. This Isaac Patch left no widow. His father Isaac left a widow Mary.

Do you have documentation for his death date? I find different death dates on varying sites, but no documentation confirming it. I do have documentation for his birth date of 27 Feb 1715. Is there documentation for the middle name of Wilson?
