Biography

Janet Paterson was born about 1705 (estimate based on children's birth years).

Janet Paterson married John Hunter in the parish of Alloa, Clackmannanshire on 18 December 1730.[1]

John and Janet had at least four children baptised in Alloa:

  1. John Hunter (bp 24 October 1731) [2]
  2. an unnamed son (bp 28 Jan 1733)[3]
  3. Elizabeth Hunter (bp 20 November 1737) [4]
  4. David Hunter (bp 9 August 1747) [5]

Research Notes

There are multiple potential baptism records for Janet. She was likely born in Alloa, since her marriage record says she is "of this parish". There are two Alloa records that work well based on the ages of her children:

PATERSON, JANNET; JAMES PATERSON/MARGARET CRUMBIE; 03/08/1705; 465/ 20 92; Alloa

and

PATERSON, JANNET; WILLIAM PATERSON/JANNET PATERSON; 06/10/1706; 465/ 20 101; Alloa

But, considering how Janet did not name any of her children after any of these potential parents, it is very difficult to say which of the two baptism records is more likely, or whether her baptism was recorded elsewhere or not recorded at all.
