Annie Divona Paterson is born on September 28, 1910, in Scarborough, Ontario, the daughter of Malcolm McGillivray Paterson (1875-1950) and Annie Cathetta Wright (1883-1941) [1][2]. Her parents live on a farm in Lot 33, Concession 4 of Scarborough Township. In today’s geography, this farm is north of Finch Avenue on Warden Avenue in the city of Toronto. Annie is eight months old in the 1911 census records, living with her family on the farm in Scarborough [3].
The family moves from Scarborough to Markham Township at some point. Annie can be found in the 1921 census records, at the age of 10, living in Markham with her family [4].
At some point, Annie marries Fred Spring (1905-1974) – no marriage record has been located. Annie and Fred have two children:
• Alfred Charles Spring 1947 [?1949]-1983
• Frederick Spring
Nothing more is known about the life of Annie and Fred, except that they continue to live in Markham—we know they were still living there in 1957 [5] and we have a newspaper account of Fred Spring in Markham in 1968.
Fred dies in 1974 and is buried in the Saint Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Markham. Annie dies on April 20, 1996, and is buried with him [6].
[1] The 1968 Paterson family tree by Marjorie Paterson shows Annie as the 4th child of Malcolm & Annie; it shows her spouse as Fred Spring. And it shows 2 children: (1) Alfred; and (2) Frederick.
