John was born in 1778. John Patton ... He passed away in 1860. [1]

John Patton, b. 22 Aug 1778 York Co, moved with parents from York Co Pa to Washington Co Tenn. John married Mary Kelsey; this marriage is said to have taken place on 25 July 1798 in Washington Co Tn. by John Blair, justice of the peace. (Marr. not found in county records, but some of the early marriages were from Bibles since lost). Mary (1781-1865) was the dau of William and agnes (Gowdey) Kelsy. (581) John was an elder in the Presbyterian Church at Jonesboro; he moved his family to Old Kingsport, Sullivan Co Tn where he and his wife transferred their church membership. He was accepted as an elder in the Kingsport Presbyterian Church on 4 Oct 1829. (552) John died on 6 Oct 1860 at Kingsport. [1850, 1860 census?] They had eleven children, the first ten born at Jonesboro, Washington Co.[2]
