Biography

This individual was almost certainly born in Surry County, North Carolina. He was born 18 August 1786 (date inscribed on tombstone).

He married Mary McBride on/after 25 April 1807.[1]

He was a farmer.

The 1810 and 1820 U.S. Census show him living in Surry County. No record for 1830 can be found, but the 1850 census says that his son Lewis was born in Indiana. Thus the move from North Carolina to Indiana appears to have occurred between 1820 and 1828.

He appears in the 1840-1860 U.S. Census, living in Daviess County, Indiana with his wife. Neither of them appears in the 1870 census.

He is buried in Liberty Cemetery, Daviess County, Indiana, USA.[2]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Gilbert by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Gilbert:

Thanks to Bob Carter for pointing out discrepancy over this individual's parentage, also to Nancy Howell for confirming that Gilbert was the son of Greenberry and Rebecca (Bohannon) Patterson.
It is entirely plausible for this Gilbert Patterson to be the son of either Gilbert Patterson (Patterson-1100) & his wife Nancy Sarah McIver, or of Gilbert Patterson (Patterson-1122) and his wife Rebecca Bohannon. If you find any documentary evidence either way, please let me know. I have traced the Gilbert-Mary couple up till their deaths in Indiana in the 1860's, so will be adding that info ASAP.
I have Gilbert Patterson who married Mary McBride as being a son of Greenberry Patterson & Rebecca Bohannon
