Biography

George Patterson was born July 24, 1762. He was the seventh child of Captain James Patterson and Mary Chambers Stewart.[1]

He married Jean Burd on August 8, 1783. She was the daughter of Colonel James Burd and Sarah Plumley Shippen. She died in 1819 in Germantown, Pa.

George and Jane lived at Mexico, Pa until 1810 and then moved to Mt. Airynear, Philadelphia, Pa. He at one time owned several mills on D. O. Run which he operated with his brother James. He was first taxed as a freeman, at the age of 19, in 1781. He decided to leave Middletown for the Juaniata in April 1788. George inherited land, saw mills and grist mills from his father's estate. He was the youngest son of James and Mary.

Mary Patterson, b. July6, 1786, Middletown, Pa; d. May9, 1857, Pottsville, Pa.
She did not marry. She was named for her paternal grandmother MaryStuart Patterson.
James Burd PATTERSON, b. July8, 1788, Juniata County, Pa; d. March 31, 1867, Pottsville, Pa.
EDWARDPATTERSON, b. February21, 1790, Juniata County, Pa; d. September 18, 1814, Chestnut Hill, Pa. He did not marry.
JOSEPH SHIPPEN PATTERSON, b. July10, 1791, Juniata County, Pa; d. January29, 1811, Chestnut Hill, Pa. He did not marry.
WILLIAM AUGUSTU SPATTERSON, b. November 1, 1792, Juniata County, Pa; d. July12, 1833, Pottsville, Pa.
CHARLOTTE CHAMBERS PATTERSON, b. March 19, 1794, Juniata County, Pa; d. March 20, 1863, Marietta, Pa.
ELIZA BURD PATTERSON, b. December 6, 1795, Juniata County, Pa; d. September 12, 1864, Schuykill, Haven, Pa.
