Her daughter, Sarah Margaret (Slaton) Watson, was born about 1836 and should not be mistaken for her. Sarah (Patterson) Slaton is not listed in the 1860 census, suggesting a death date possibly between 1850 and 1860.[2]
Virginia Grace Slaton Moore, a claimed descendant of Caroline (Samples) Slaton and George Washington Slaton Sr., wrote that George married Caroline after the death of wife Sarah. [3] That death would have been between 1850 and 1860 suggested by her absence from the 1860 Census, and agrees with a George Slayton's marriage to Caroline in 1859.[4]
Monroe County paid $5.00 for the unnamed wife of George Slaton, a pauper, to be buried in a coffin, noted 1875 as follows:
"Mr. M.L. McDaniel is allowed the sum of $5.00 for a coffin furnished to bury the remains of George Slaten's wife, pauper, who died in Monroe Co, TN. 1875."[5]
Sarah is reportedly buried at Notchey Creek Cemetery (old), Monroe County, Tennessee, but descendant Joe J. Slaten stated that there were no gravestones, to his knowledge, for either Sarah or George W. Slaten.
