Gilbert Pattison, was a legatee of Jane, wife of Thomas Pattison. Her will is dated 11 June 1692 at Anne Arundel co., Maryland, and states that Gilbert was married to woman named, Ann.[1]
Notes
He appears to have been born in either Scotland or Maryland.
DOB guess: abt. 1670 ... wild guess based on birth date of son.[2]
Gilbert Pattison was born c. 1671, prob. Maryland.[1] Another source has claimed a birth year c. 1673.[2] If 1671/3 is correct, and if Gilbert's mother was indeed the widow of Francis Johnson (d. 1676), then Gilbert must necessarily have been the son of Thomas Pattison's theoretical earlier wife. Gilbert was not specifically named as one of Jane Pattison's children in her will dated 6 Jun 1692. Instead Jane bequeathed "personalty" to the "first child of Ann, wife of Gilbert Pattison.[6][3]
6 Jun 1673: Ann Jones, daughter of William and Elizabeth Jones was born.[4] J. C. Otts has claimed a birth year c. 1670.
Between 1692/9 Gilbert and Ann Pattison sold 170 acres in Anne Arundel County called Yates Inheritance to William Johnson and John Richardson.[5] William Johnson was the son of Francis and Jane Johnson.
4 Jan 1698/9: Gilbert Pattisson was buried in All Hallows Church in Anne Arundel County.[6] The year on our Julian Calendar would have been 1699.[5a]
4 Jul 1699: The inventory of Gilbert's estate was recorded.
6 Apr 1700: Widow Ann filed the accounts as administrator, including the funeral expenses.[7]
15 Jul 1701: Ann Pattison married Charles Cheney in All Hallows Church.[8]
"Gilbert and Eliza. Patterson, with Chas Cheney, and estate in his hands", appeared on a List of Orphans in Anne Arundel.[9]

[5a] Great Britain did not adopt the Gregorian calendar until 1752. The old Julian calendar was eleven days ahead of the earth's actual position and began the New Year on March 25 rather than Jan 1. To confuse matters further, the Quakers often referred to their months by their number rather than their name, thus "ye tenth day of ye third month of ye year 1720". Many genealogists would routinely convert these dates by adding two months, thus "ye third month" might become May; others might take "ye third month" in its modern context, resulting in March; and still others might have used a calculator to arrive at the precise pre-1752 date. Unless one is looking at the original record, it's impossible to know which method was used. In this web site, I've used any dates as I found them. Anyone desiring the precise calendar date should go to the original Quaker records armed with a calendar converter.
