I am Steven Patterson. I have my birth certificate. I currently live in the San Francisco Bay area. I was raised in Tucson, AZ. I have lived in Southern California, Salt lake City, Utah (I'm not LDS), and now here in Northern California. My primary occupation was as a computer systems administrator.

My father served in the US Navy (1930s), the US Army (1940s), the US Army Air Corps (1940s) and the US Air Force (1940s,1950s,1960s).

My mother worked as a waitress for many years, but in the late 1950s studied cosmetology and received her license to practice. In the 1960s, she partnered with another hair dresser and opened her own business which ran successfully for several years. She sold her share to her partner after marrying my step-father, but the shop itself remained a viable business for many years after.

My grandfather Barnett was involved in real estate in Southern California and mined gold in the Mojave desert during the Depression.

My grandfather Patterson owned an ice business and livery in Bloomfield, MO, in the late 19th and the early 20th centuries. Horseless carriages and refrigeration eventually drove him out of businrss. I've heard many stories about him and how tough and strong he was. He passed away 10 years before I was born so I never had the pleasure if knowing him.

I'm very interested in my family's background. My brother and his family have done a lot of work on our family. I really want to take DNA tests to help determine where my family is from. Here on WikiTree I have discovered that I have German, French, English, Welsh, Italian, and Swiss ancestors. Most of my ancestors have been in this country as far back as 1640. I recently discovered that on my father's side, a blood relative named Martha Dandridge married a surveyor and military man named George Washington. Yeah, that George Washington. One always hopes to be related to someone famous, but I never had a clue I was related to anyone famous let alone the first president of the United States.

I look forward to discovering more about my family, and helping to build WikiTree as a volunteer.

As I gain more experience on WikiTree, I'm sure I will have more to add here.

Hi!

Just checking in with a few quick tips:

Free Space pages are wiki pages for supplementing your family history. They can be used to profile anything of significance such as a special pet, a meaningful event, a school you attended, a family heirloom .... They're "anything pages".

Not sure what to include in a profile? Check out our Biography Ideas and Styles and Standards help pages.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, please ask!

Thanks for volunteering, Steve! You are now a confirmed member of the WikiTree community.

Here's how to add family profiles. You'll get the hang of WikiTree faster if you familiarize yourself with the green tabs near the top of each profile.

If you feel lost, ask a question in our G2G forum. Most WikiTree members are happy to help a fellow genealogist.

Here's the G2G Question of the Week: What is the craziest online genealogy "fact" (really fiction) that you've come across?

If you want EVEN MORE to do, check out these volunteer options.

I am the great grandson of Sarah Amanda (Crist) Wooldrige of Hardin, KY. I live in the san Francisco Bay area. After digging on and off for several years, I believe I may have located the home town of the Crist brothers that left "Emmen" Germany in 1738 as described in the date book of Johanne Nicholaus Heinrich Crist (said to be Emmerns, Germany). I'm going to Germany in December and hope to be able to visit this town and search for their records. If I can find any birth or marriage records, I will copy them and post them here. I would like to find out who their grand parents are.

Hello, Steve Patterson

Welcome to WikiTree! The initial email we sent has useful links that will help you get started.

WikiTree is unique among genealogy sites in that our goal is to have One Profile per person. We are growing a shared global tree in which we collaborate as a team of researchers.

After you have confirmed your e-mail address, you may wish to add YOUR family branches by becoming a Volunteer. If so, indicate your genealogy interests by filling in TAGs for surnames you want to research, like GARCIA or a location, like SWEDEN. Include a comment on why each TAG is meaningful to you. Make sure to click the "Enter Tag(s) and Volunteer" button and a Greeter will follow-up in confirming your membership.

Thank you for visiting WikiTree. --Rod
