Woodford County Journal 30 May 1907, Thu ยท Page 2 Ex-Senator Patton Dead Michigan Statesman Succumbs To Attack Of Typhoid Fever General Rapids, Mich., May 25--Former United States Senator John Patton died Friday of typhoid fever. He returned last Thursday from Aiken, S. C., where he had been in search of health. He is survived by a widow and three sons. John Patton was born in Curwensville, Pa., October 30, 1850. He came to Grand Rapids in 1878, after having graduated from Yale College in the class of 1875 and taken a course in the Columbia Law School. He entered upon the practice of law here. Mr. Patton was appointed United States Senator from Michigan in 1894 to fill the vacancy caused by of Senator Stockbridge. He served one year in the senate.
