Unsourced orphan profile, notes for finding sources - there seem to be three different people contained here, with two different birthplaces given.

• Thomas Patten the son of Humphrey Patten of Stoke Newington, Middlesex. Humphrey did have a son Thomas but he was born in Warrington, Lancashire, and was married there in 1560 so could not be the Thomas Patton born 1578 in Yorkshire or Scotland. The dating error has arisen because Humphrey is the brother of William Patton, not the son as shown here, so dates are a generation out.^[1][2] This Thomas has an existing Wikitree profile at Thomas Patten. A memorial inscription is said to have been recorded in 1774 at Warrington: "Here lye interred HUMPHREY PATTEN, son of Richard, brother to WILLIAM of Waynflete: Thomas Patten, his oldest son: Thomas Patten, his oldest son, May 30 1639: Thomas Patten, his oldest son, Sept. 8, 1653 : Thomas Patten, his oldest son, Nov. 25, 1684. Thomas Patten, his eldest son, dyed April 5, 1726, aged 63".^[3]

There is a marriage of Thomas Patton and Elizabeth Hall 18 October 1603,^[4] presumably the birth date is estimated from this as it is 25 years earlier. However, this marriage seems to have been discounted and there is nothing to connect this Thomas with the ones in Scotland, Ireland or Warrington.

• Thomas Patton born in Scotland 1578, father of Matthew Patton born Scotland 1600, who emigrated to Ireland and died in Clonmany, Donegal, 31 January 1642. This is the exact same death date and place given for Rev William Thomas Patton but other details are all different.
