Abigail Payne was born in 1815 in Barbourville, Knox, Kentucky, United States, daughter of William Payne (about 1783–1848) and Abigail Stewart (1784–1853). She married Thomas L. Jordan March 25, 1834. He was the son of Woodford Jordan and Elizabeth Coffee Jordan. They had 11 children in 22 years. Abigail died sometime after the 1880 Census where she is listed as sick from falling in Knox, Kentucky at around age 65.

Abigail (18) and Thomas Symons Jordan (25) were married on 25 May 1834 in Knox County, Kentucky. Thomas was born on 8 Sep 1808 in Craven, Rockingham County, North Carolina, USA. He was the son of Joseph Jordan and Sarah Symons.
