Killed 31st August 1943, in flying accident with the crew of the aircraft - Short Stirling N6005; including Clarence William Woods, Ivan Aubrey Eliot, John Frederick Bice Wearne, George Louis Yensen, Robert George Cotton, Richard William Pratt, Derek Parsons and Patrick Irwin in WWII.[1]

PAYNE - In loving memory of our dear brother. Flight-Sergeant Fred. Payne, lost in aircraft accident in England August 31, 1943. We have lost, but heaven has gained The most wonderful brother this world contained. Sadly missed by his loving brother and sister-in-law, Bert and Rene.
PAYNE - In loving memory of my dear brother Fred, who died as result of air- accident in England on August 31, 1943. They say time heals all sorrows And helps us to forget. But time so far has only proved How much we miss you yet. Ever remembered by his loving brother Jack.

Flight Sergeant Fred Payne, who was killed on active service in England on August 31, 1943, and buried in Cambridge. :We had a son with a heart of gold, Who was more to us than wealth untold, Always smiling, happy, content, Liked and respected wherever he went; Always thoughtful, loving and kind. A beautiful memory left behind: Unseen by the world he stands by my side. And whispers, 'Don't cry, dear mother, death cannot divide.' Ever remembered by his loving mother, dad, sister and brothers.
