He was born in Tennessee, but like the rest of his family, he lived in Canada for a while.He migrated back to the US in 1916.[1] In 1917, he was living in Custer, Nebraska. He was working as a farm laborer and he was not married.[2] By 1920, he had married Bridie, Birdie "Ruth" Willett[3] In 1930, he was living in Osage, Wyoming with Ruth and their family.[4]

He died in 1972 and was buried in Idaho.[5] He is buried with his second wife, Hattie.[6]
