Biography

His parents are uncertain. Various people have suggested:

He married Maria De La Mater on 3 June 1716 Mamaroneck, Westchester County, New York. They had ten children. He was originally buried in the Dutch Cemetery that was then moved; see below note.

NOTE: All the interments for the Dutch Reformed Church Cemetery of Harlem, New York were moved to Woodlawn Cemetery, 501 East 233rd Street, Bronx County, Bronx, NY. The move was done in 1875.

...Montague Family Tree: This shows John Pearce was born 4 on Apr 20 1682 in Flatbush, New York. He died 5 on Jun 3 1744 in New Harlem, New York and was buried 6 on Jun 3 1744 in Buried: New Harlem Cem. NY, NY. John married 3 Maria DELAMATER 1, 2 on Jun 3 1716 in Mamarhnerk, West Chester Co., New York. Maria was born 4 on Aug 8 1696 in Kingston, Ulster Co., New York. She died 5 on Oct 24 1734 in New Harlem, New York. Their two oldest sons were James PEARCE was born on Aug 8 1717 and died on Mar 15 1787. John PEARCE was born on Aug 8 1717 and died on Jan 12 1807. James married Sarah VAN HORNE 1 on Jan 19 1741/1742 in Bergen Co. New Jersey. Sarah was born 3 on Sep 30 1724 in New York, New York. She died 4, 5 on Nov 20 1806 in Columbiana, Ohio. James' children were Andrew PEARCE was born on Dec 15 1743 and died on Jun 15 1800. Mercy PEARCE was born on Jan 29 1745/1746. Lewis PEARCE was born on Jan 21 1747/1748 and died on Aug 23 1825. John married Ann H. ALEXANDER about 1742. John also married Elizabeth BOWERS on Mar 19 1758. John's child was Issac PEARCE was born on Dec 21 1758. 1791 and 1798 tax lists for Elizabeth Allegheny Pennsylvania show John and Issac Pearce and show Sarah (and widow), Joseph, Elisha, Andrew, James, Stephen, and Lewis Pearce. This seems to imply that the families of John and James Pearce located to Pennsylvania. This also implies that the John Pearce born 8 Aug 1717 in Mamaronech, Westchester, New York, United States on the Montague family tree is not the John Pearce who married Lydia Fish in 1746 in New Jersey and is not the father of Joseph Pierce on the Sons of the Revolution Application. There is possible New Jersey census information indicating that John and Lydia Pearce lived in New Jersey through 1784.

Pat Wardell says he was the son of William Pearce and Hannah, born 20 April 1682 in Flatbush and married on 3 June 1716 in Mamaroneck. First child born in Mamaroneck; later ones in Harlem. Her only source was AJRealm @ aol.com, April 2000, Dutch-Colonies List. Can someone look that up??? Smith-62120

Birth not found in Flatbush church records. No online records for Mamaroneck in this time period -- people there may have been handled by churches to Kingston, Poughkeepsie, etc. Marriage not found in Kingston church records. Harlem records are lost. Smith-62120 04:03, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Pearce-510 and Pearce-1914 appear to represent the same person because: same name, dates, spouse. Please DO NOT reject or set as unmerged matches unless you have proof that these represent two separate men, in which case you need to correct the dates and remove the spouse from one of them.

Pearce-510 and Pearce-1914 do not represent the same person because: Not duplicates.

Pearce-3176 and Pearce-510 appear to represent the same person because: same name, same dates and locations of birth/death, same spouse. These were first proposed to be merged over four years ago. IMHO, they should be merged. Since parents can't be determined, detach all parents and leave the note in the bio as to the possible parents. We should not have three duplicate profiles.
Ellen Smith is / has taken actions to of clearing up to the correct parents ...

Pearce-3176 and Pearce-510 do not represent the same person because: Parents are different. Several John Pearce exist. Not sure that this is the right John Pearce.

So they were born and died on the same day in the same place and married the same named woman but they aren't the same man? Really?
NNS - what do you want done with this situation? Seems someone needs to added the correct parents as stated in notes and detach Maria Delamater from both these John Pearce profiles...

I will reject the merge proposal if you want that done.

Beryl, what am I missing? The bio says that he married Maria Delamater.

He was born four years after both of his parents died? Impossible!

Pearce-3176 and Pearce-510 do not represent the same person because: family does not match
Could someone please unlock this profile so the incorrect parents can be removed

Unfortunately, none of the profiles has sourcing that can be relied on as a basis for determining which set of parents is correct. If you have solid evidence for the correct parents, please document your evidence in one of the profiles.

The parents are unknown - he is definitely not a son to Richard and Susannah Wright so I am still hoping the incorrect profiles will be detached.

In the future it would be helpful if you would explain your evidence and reasoning for an assertion like "he is definitely not a son to Richard and Susannah Wright," instead of hoping that someone else will repeat the investigations that you have already done. It appears that Richard Pearce (abt.1615-abt.1678) and Susanna (Wright) Pearce (1627-bef.1678) are reasonably well-documented people (unlike this man), and they are too old to have been this mans parents. I will disconnect them, but I cannot get back the minutes of my life that I spent on this...

Agree on your comment on Pearce-1914, but still haven't figured out who his father is (William or Richard). Also have to work on the wife (Delamater-153 or Delamater-69). Haven't had much time to work on this.

Pearce-3176 and Pearce-510 are not ready to be merged because: I so wish I could repair the tree. We have too many Pearce/Wright error at this point.
I suggest that a direct link to the FAG memorial should not be used in this profile, especially as the only source, since the information listed in the two locations do not agree.

Pearce-3176 and Pearce-510 are not ready to be merged because: Believe these two are the same person and they should be merged once the conflict with his father's name is resolved.
