Biography

Lucy Pegler was born on 15 February 1848, her birth being registered at Blandford, Dorset, in the 1st quarter of that year^[1]. She was the daughter of Alfred Pegler and his wife Lucy.

In the 1851 England Census Lucy Pegler (aged 3) was living with her father Alfred Pegler (30 and a Goldsmith Watchmaker), her mother Lucy Pegler (32) and younger brother William Pegler (1) at 151, High Street, Saint Lawrence, Southampton, Hampshire. Also in the household was her uncle Edwin Pegler (20 and a Jewellers Assistant), visitor Susan Etheridge (16) and servants Sarah Stride (24) and Eliza Marshall (43).

She married Septimus Rix on 29 May 1869 in Southampton, Hampshire^[2].

On the 20th inst., at Portland Chapel, Southampton, by the Rev. Charles Williams, Septimus Rix to Lucy Pegler.^[3]

They went on to have five children.

Her husband Septimus died on 19 November 1911.

In the 1939 England and Wales Register Lucy Rix (aged 91 and a widow) was recorded living at 17 Lower Kings Road, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, England in the household of her married daughter Winifred L Henderson (64).

Occupation: No Occupation

Lucy was residing at Elvyna, 2 Chesham Road, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire when she passed away on 19 November 1945^[4]. Her Will was proved on 29 March 1946 at Llandudno to Arthur Bentley Whiting, broker at Lloyds^[5]. Effects: £1,120 18s. 5d.
