VALENTINE PENCE was born about 1700 probably in what is now Hesse Stadt, Germany; died between 25 May 1761 (will date) and 18 Aug 1761 (will proved) in Augusta County, Virginia; married (Anna Maria) Catherine Oberlin 19 Jan 1741 in East Cocalico Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (an entry in the International Genealogical Index gives his name as Georg Valentine Bentz and hers as Maria Catherine Oberlin for this marriage; they were married by the Rev. John Casper Stover and the published version of this marriage does not include the name Georg for him); he and his brother Jacob settled on Cub Run, then in Augusta County but now in Rockingham County, Virginia, about 1747. Research Notes

Richard Allen Pence's "A Guide to the Pence Families of America (Volume I)" does a good job of analyzing the various Pence connections, not being able to come to any firm conclusions about where they came from and which Pences were related. This genealogy sorts through the various early Pences; the first section is about Jacob and his brother Valentine who landed in Augusta County, Virginia. DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Valentine by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Valentine:

Pence-469 and Pence-115 appear to represent the same person because: same son, lack of sources to support alternate birth on Pence-469
