Biography

Jemima Pendleton was born in 1733 in what was then Orange County (later Culpeper). Colony of Virginia, and passed away in 1805. [1] [2] It was said that she was one of five daughters and 15 children born to Phillip Pendleton and his wife Martha.[1]

"Jemima married her first cousin, Richard Gaines, son of Isabella Pendleton and William Henry Gaines. The early work on this family, published in 1900,[1] attributed all of Richard Gaines' children to Jemima, including William, Lucy, and Rowland, born in the 1750s. Later, evidence was found for an earlier wife, Ann (Cornelius) Gaines, who was named on a deed in 1760 and presumably living.[2] This remains somewhat in conflict with the birth of Jemima's first child, Jemima Gaines, arriving around 1760.

Pendleton-4552 and Pendleton-1136 appear to represent the same person because: They are the same person.

According to the sources cited, William Henry Gaines, b 1754, who m. Jane Botts, and Rowland Gaines, b ~1757, were sons of Richard's first wife, not of Jemima, his second wife. Assuming no objections, I will make the changes.

Also, all of the children are linked to the wrong Richard Gaines, Gaines-360, for their father; he had a different wife and was a son of Richard Gaines Sr. The correct Richard Gaines was his first cousin, Gaines-907, son of William Henry Gaines. Now I have added the latter as the spouse of Jemima and will move the children to their rightful home after waiting for comments.
