William was born about 1787 in North Carolina.[1]

Death

Timeline/Records

William M. PENNINGTON m. sp (2) after 1820 SC. 1830 Marion Co., AL appears to be x-wife Elizabeth, her father, Wm. Sarratt, 1st born Samuel b. ca 1800, 2nd born Aaron Hampton & possible wife, Hannah, 3rd born Martin and 4th born Henry. William M. has not been found in the 1830 SC census. He has by his 2nd wife, son Andrew Jackson with birth year of 1830 SC and his next born, John, with a birth year of 1833 AL.By census dates, this puts 1st wife, Elizabeth in 1830 Marion Co., AL while William M. is still in Spartanburg Co., SC in 1830.

If Andrew Jackson with CW papers is the son of William, these show him to be born Jan 1827 in Fayette Co., AL rather than 1830 SC. Putting William in AL by 1827 with the rest of the Penningtons and his x-wife.

Records/Research

William M. Pennington, the fifth child of thirteen, was born in 1787 in Guilford/Randolph, North Carolina. William married three times. His first marriage was in 1809 to Elizabeth Sarratt. Elizabeth was born in 1784 to William Sarratt and ? Cole. She was the sister of Mary Margaret "Molly" Sarratt who married Jesse Pennington (William's younger brother) and also Samuel Sarratt who married Nancy Pennington, the daughter of Benjamin Pennington, Sr. (William's older brother). William and Elizabeth Pennington had three children, Samuel (1809, Spartanburg, SC), Martin (1814) and Henry (1815).

William's second marriage was in 1820 to Isabell Sidenham who was born in 1800 in South Carolina. They had eleven children: Walter James Amos (1822), Jasper William "Little Bill" (1823), T. Dot A., Delila, Rachel (1828), Andrew Jackson (1830), John (1833), Latna, (1835), Isaac Newton (1838), Thomas (1841), and Ezekiel (1848).

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

How do we know that his middle name was Martin and that his first wife was Elizabeth Sarratt?

This is:

William Martin Pennington Birth ABT 1787 in Randolph Co., NC; Guilford Death BET 1861 AND 1869 in Fayette Co., AL

I think Randolph used to be Guilford at one time.

The two wives are correct.
