Biography

Levi was born in 1794 in North Carolina. He is the son of Elizabeth and Levi Pennington. The 1850 census reveals that Levi Pennington is fifty five years of age and was born in North Carolina. He is married to Elizabeth Henson and they have seven children which are Nancy age 25 years, John age 20 years, Anderson age 18 years, Daniel age 16 years, Andrew age 14 years, Elizabeth age 11 years and Martha 8 years of age.

Previous research had Levi as the son of Levi b. 1769 (This was Micajah Pennington's son) There has been no documentation other than the similarities of names that would connect the two. However, there is substantial documentation that suggests that he is the son of Ephraim Pennington. A letter written by Daniel Pennington to his son talks of visiting his brother Andrew and traveling over to Ashe Co., NC to see his "Unkle Levi". The land that Andrew Pennington is recorded on in the 1850 census is sold to Elijah Ephraim Pennington and Isaac Pennington, his nephews. Furthermore, Andrew is recorded with an older man named Ephraim.

Here are a few blog entries that I have written that discuss this research: Facts, Assumptions & Theories and Levi Pennington & Elizabeth Henson Family

He passed away about 1887.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Levi by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Levi:
