Parents
Isaac Pennington was the son of Abraham Pennington who was born 6 October 1694 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and died 29 MAY 1756 in Berkeley Co., South Carolina. Isaac's mother was Katrina Weister who was born 20 May 1695 in Hilsbach, Baden, Germany and died between 1718 AND 1720. [1]
Isaac's mother was Katrina Weister. The Pennington Webpage recognizes that Catherine Williams is not Isaac's mother and cites Margaret C. Pennington, "Pennington Family History" (1985), which is a booklet as the source of Katrina's relationship and suggests independent research verify the information; cf. Trott Information (listing Catherine Williams as the mother) [1]
Isaac's wife was Mary; her birth and family are not known. She died May 1762 at Enoree River, Berkeley County, South Carolina.[1] Isaac's first child was born about 1735, so estimate the date of marriage as about 1734.
1736 Shenandoah Valley, Virginia
1736-1740: Isaac took up residence in Frederick or Augusta County, Virginia (Shenendoah Valley) under patent of Morgan Bryan and Alexander Ross. [1]
1743-1747: Several land dealings for Isaac Pennington of Frederick County, VA (including land on west side of Shenendoah River). Brother Jacob and father, Abraham, also mentioned in Isaac's land records. [1]
From 1736-1740, Isaac took up residence in the Shenandoah Valley in either Frederick Co or Augusta Co, Virginia, near the border with Pennsylvania, under a patent of Morgan Bryan and Alexander Ross. (Families of Cockrell, et al. at 21 (citing ___ Cartmell, Shenandoah Valley Pioneers and Their Descendants 19 (relying on land survey records dated 1749-50 referring to Isaac Pennington)); Pennington Webpage noted that it needed a reference for this information.) [2]
From 1743-1747, Isaac engaged in several land deals in Frederick Co, VA, including land on the west side of the Shenandoah River. His brother, Jacob, and father, Abraham, are mentioned in the land records. (Pennington Webpage (with no citation).) [2]

In 1742 Isaac was named Captain in the Orange County, VA Militia. [1][3]
1748 Entertains George Washington
On 14 Mar 1748, George Washington, 16 years old, spent the night at Isaac Pennington's home in Frederick County, VA. Washington was visiting the Shenendoah Valley to survey land. Isaac's land was in Orange County, now near Berryville in Clarke County near the Potomac River. [4][5]

On 11 Jul 1751, Isaac purchased 350 acres in the fork of the Broad and Saluda Rivers from George and Elizabeth Whiles. In the deed, Isaac states he is a blacksmith from Virginia. [6]
1754 South Carolina
On 1 Apr 1754: Isaac Pennington, stating that he is from VA, petitions for land on Santee and Collins Rivers in SC. (Son-in-law, Capt. Charles King petitioned the same day.) Isaac's brother, Jacob, had petitioned for SC lands in 1749; father, Abraham, in 1752. [7]
On 1 Apr 1754, Isaac submits two petitions for land in South Carolina, one on his own behalf and one for his wife. In each petition, he requested 50 acres along the waters of Santee, apparently near the Collins River. He states that he intends to build a mill and an "iron works." (Families of Cockrell, et al. at 18 (citing 23 Council Journal 169-70 (Historical Commission). Revill Research.) It is interesting to note that these petitions are dated the same day as a petition submitted by his son-in-law, Charles King. (Id.; also see Pennington Webpage.)[2]
1755 South Carolina Militia
circa 1755: Capt. Isaac Pennington musters with Berkeley County, SC regiment. [7]
Isaac Pennington served as a captain in the Colonial Wars. (Families of Cockrell, et al. at 6, 21-2 (citing ___ Scott, History of Orange County, Virginia 258 (unknown pub. date) and 3 South Carolina Historical & Genealogical Magazine 97 (unknown pub. date) (quoting from South Carolina Gazette (Feb. 19, 1753)).) The 19 Feb 1753 issue of the South Carolina Gazette states: Ordered, that Berkley County Regiment do meet after the following manner to be reviewed at a general muster, Viz: The following companies in the townships to be reviewed by Maj. Moses Thomson, Viz. Capt. Daniel Schuyder, Capt. James Francis and Capt. Isaac Pennington, who are ordered to meet at the Congaree store, the first Wednesday in March.[2]
It is expected that exact lists of the several companies, the dates of the officers commissions, and lists of the male slaves, be returned as the law directs, being the orders of his excellency, the Governor. Thomas Smith, Jun. Adjutant. [2]

Lydia Pennington: Birth: ABT 1735. wife of Samuel Cannon. Lydia Pennington. (Pennington Webpage (citing Will of Isaac Pennington).) [9]
Jacob Pennington: Death: 1827 in Lawrence Co., TN. The identity of Jacob has generated much controversy. Many researchers believe that the Jacob of Isaac's will is the same Jacob who settled near Clarksville, TN and later in Logan County, KY. Others believe that the Jacob of Isaac's will is the Jacob who settled in Lawrence County, TN around 1816.
Isaac Pennington: Death: ABT 1792 in Killed by Indians on Wilderness Rd near Clarksville, TN. Researchers agree that the younger Isaac is the same Isaac Pennington who was killed by Indians on the Wilderness Road near Clarksville, TN in 1792. Isaac Pennington. Some accounts show Isaac Pennington born 16 May, 1715 in Albemarle County, Virginia or 17 May 1715 in Wilmington Co, Delaware and others show him born circa 1720, probably in the vicinity of Cecil County, MD, or in northern Virginia. [1]
Rod Pennington shows Isaac Pennington born about 1720, probably near Cecil County, Maryland. [10]
By looking at everyone's research on Isaac Pennington he has been very confused and his dates jump all around because I believe he's getting mixed up with other Isaac Pennington's.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Isaac by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Isaac:
In the most recent merge, all ancestry.com material was deleted. Because there are indications of conflation of two or more Isaacs in this profile, I have retrieved and replaced much of the deleted ancestry.com material; while it is not considered reliable, it needs to be reviewed and mined for any clues which may help distinguish one Isaac from another.
This profile was in my tree as a sibling of my ancestor Alice Pennington, this is imported from www.ancestry.ca where the trees are replicating this belief.
If you have documents proving Joseph Pennington is connected with this family, I would love to see them. Its just I believe Joseph Pennington who moved to Indiana is being confused with the Berkeley Co., SC group of Pennington's.
Just a FYI, the Joseph you have as a son of this couple (Isaac and Catherine Wms) is the same Joseph Pennington as Pennington-241. (Do not try to merge them) We have had DNA test which show decendants of our Joseph Pennington-241 is PRA Group 6 & 23. Those two groups are the same family. But our family is not related to these Berkeley Co., SC Pennington's. People are always trying to connect our Joseph with this family. Yes, our Joseph married a Lamb but this Isaac is not his father. We don't know who the mother is. We are not even sure that Joseph's mother was married to Isaac Pennington because he had a few mistresses and illigitimite children which were Jefferson Brown Pennington and Isaac Brown Pennington with mistress Agnes Brown. We have documents proving these children.
I apologize for the changes I recently made to this profile but I was working on my own Pennington's, looked and saw I was no longer on my own managed memorials. I volunteer for the Pennington Research Association so believe my changes are correct. Please note, we only show Capt. Isaac married to a Mary Williams. He is PRA Group 8. This Isaac has been really confused with the members of Group 6 & 23 family in Surry Co., NC / Patrick Co., VA and their DNA's do not match. Wife Mary Lamb needs to be disconnected. I'm not sure where Mary Lamb goes right now but I do not believe Mary Lamb belongs here. If we are wrong and find this out later, we can reconnect her. Thanks for reading. Mindy
Looking for marriage evidence Issac PENNINGTON m. Mary Sarah LAMB ca. 1737 Berkeley Cty, SC. This widely published on the internet but I have as yet seen no proof.
says that the Joseph dead in 1839 Indiana was born in north carolina, which is matching mariage location for Isaac Pennington.
