Richard Pennington was born about 1809[1] or 1811[2] or 1816[3] in England.
Richard married Catherine ? (born about 1820 in England). It is assumed that they married in England, and subsequently emigrated to Canada where they started a family. As there is no record of them in the 1841 Canada census, they likely moved from England between 1841 and 1845, with their first son born in Canada in 1845.
In the 1851 Canada census, Richard and Catherine were living in Etobicoke, Ontario. He was working as a labourer. They had the following children, all born in Canada: John (1845), Henry (1847) and William (1849).[3]
In the 1861 Canada census, Richard and Catherine were living in Wellington county, Ontario, Canada. They had the following children, all born in Canada: John (1847), Henry (1849), William (1851), Andrew (1854) and Joseph (1859). At that time, they were farming on 98 acres of land.[2]
In the 1881 Canada census, Richard and Catherine were living in Harriston, Wellington North, Ontario, Canada.[1]
He died before 1891, as In the 1891 census, Catherine is widowed and living with their son Andrew. There is a death record on 2 Nov 1882 in Huron County, Ontario, Canada, for Richard Pennington, born 1809 in England.[4] This is believed to be this Richard Pennington due to the general information match; however his profession is listed as school teacher on the death record.
