Information regarding the wife of William Teague is disputed. Until adequate documentation resolving the issues becomes available, these three profiles are being maintained separately:
The maiden name of Isabella, wife of William Teague of Maryland, is not known. Her maiden name has yet to be found in any documents of the period. With her maiden name unknown all information regarding her date and place of birth is speculation and undocumented.
William Teague's wife Isabella is sometimes identified as Isabella Pennington, Isabella Loftin, Isabella Pennington Loftin or Isabella Loftin Pennington. See discussion below and under the separate profiles for Isabella Pennington and Isabella Loftin in order to keep facts associated with each name distinguishable.
When Isabella was in her early twenties, she married William Teague. The marriage took place Sep 01, 1715 in Spesutie Hundred, Baltimore, Maryland [1]
Alternatives dates for Isabella's marriage range from 1705 to 1715, e.g., 1715 in Cecil County,Maryland; and between 1705 and 1710 in Cecil County, Maryland[2]
Isabella bore William numerous children, perhaps as many as thirteen. In order to avoid conflicts between her profile and her husband's, their children are discussed on William's profile.
A record of Isabella's date and place of death has not been found however it would appear it is most likely she died in Rowan County, North Carolina. Dates of death range from 1751 to 1762 and some sources claim she died in Rowan County, Maryland which has ever existed.
The maiden name of the wife of William Teague is Unknown. There are claims that she is a Pennington, claims that she is a Loftin, and nowhere has her maiden name been found recorded. All claims regarding her parentage are conjecture. Please do not reattach parents to this profile without discussion with the profile managers, relevant project leaders, and primary source documentation. All purported parents including William Loftin and Elizabeth Innes have been detached from this profile.
At http://www.teagueonline.freeserve.co.uk/R&B/MD1002.html (archived at Wayback Machine) we find this statement... Steve Connolly (connolly AT twics.com) writes: "Occasionally, the following is published on various genealogy sites as fact: William Teague b. ca 1693, Cecil County, MD, wife Isabella Loftin b. 19 Dec 1693. However, several very assiduous researchers have been UNABLE to verify that. It is also possible that the wife referred to was Isabella Pennington (ca 1697, Cecil County, MD). One of those researchers, Ashley Loftin, was kind enough to send me photocopies of records that he had examined during his years of hands-on research. Indeed, there is no reference to anyone but an Isabell/Isabella. This is an on-going unsolved gap in our information. Unless solid evidence has come to light (evidence many of us would love to examine), please be advised that this controversy exists for both the Loftin/Lofton researchers and the Pennington researchers. We all have to remain vigilant about publishing conjecture as fact."Lynette Jester
Some records show that Isabel was married first to John Pennington, her maiden name was Isabell Loftin so she was Isabell Pennington, a widow when she married William Teague. All the Pennington confusion arises from this first marriage if, in fact, it took place. I have chosen to list Isabella in my files with her maiden name, Loftin. [1]
"Some sources, including Family Search Ancestral File, have Isabella's surname as Pennington, but according to Patsy Elaine Morin (a descendant of Elijah Teague and Sarah Morgan) who has court records from Benton (now Calhoun) County Alabama, her understanding is that Pennington was a married name and that Isabella was widowed when she married William Teague. [3]
An extensive Internet posting by Ed Bergeron at www.Genforum.com listing 6 generations of descendants of Edward Teague (1655) shows Isabella Pennington as the daughter of Abraham Pennington and his wife Mary. After evaluating all the sources I have personally seen, I believe Isabella was a Loftin by birth. Abraham and Mary Pennington were possibly her 1st husband's parents?
I have seen no sources with real evidence that she was the daughter of Abraham Pennington, and the Loftin family has more than one source which connects her to William Loftin as father. These same sources show she was the sister of Thomas Loftin who was the father of Elizabeth Loftin who married Moses Teague (Isabella's son) - i.e., Moses Teague and Elizabeth Loftin were 1st cousins.
An Ashley Loftin pedigree chart lists Isabella (shown as Isabell) w/death date of 1731. I have seen another approximate death date (unconfirmed) of 1737. Another unconfirmed Internet source has a death date/place for Isabella as 1762 in Rowan County, North Carolina. I have posted an Email to this source (listed only as "Kathleen" requesting more sources on this (as of 9-15-99)." More About William Teague and Isabella Loftin:
Information related to Isabella Loftin or to Isabella Pennington is posted on their separate profiles.
According to Dutch/German naming patterns, the first son is named after the Paternal G-father (Edward) and the second son after the Maternal G-father. (Moses?) If either Isabella Pennington or Isabelle Loftin was the Mother, then the second son should be William or Abraham.
Granted, this naming pattern was not followed 100% of the time, and is really more of a clue than a definitive guide. But the first son was Edward...
I am not having any luck with finding "First" sources thus far, but I have found some convincingly documented websites listing Land Transfers and Church Records. One such website, Ancestors of Sherry Lynn Sorrells makes clear that Isabella Teague signed off her dowery* on land transfers up until Sept of 1736. All else is speculative. With the scarcity of records available, I feel it is too presumptuous to assume that the 2 eligible Isabells we have records for are the only 2 Isabells of the given time period. We know Isabella E. Pennington married in 1714. We know Isabelle Lofton was born in 1696. We don't know if either married William Teague to become the Isabell Teague that signed the land records.
To speculate either way is to take the tree in a completely different direction than the other. Both women exsisted. Both Families exsisted. But either and/or neither could be the spouse of William.
That being said, wouldn't it be most appropriate to leave the spouse of William as "unknown" and notate possible connections to the consolidated profiles of both Isabelle Loftin and Isabella E. Pennington in his Bio? Phillip Rich
It is also possible that the wife referred to was Isabella Pennington (ca 1697, Cecil County, MD).

I left intact some speculative comments from other sources regarding Isabella, whether a Pennington or Loftin or both, since it's hard to assign that to one of the three profiles and it may contain thoughts useful to guide our continuing research.

William's Find a Grave page has quite a few items mentioned, but it also has nothing like a 'primary' source for Isabella parents. There are several 'family tree' type sources mentioned.
I have added Research Notes section on the other Loftin profile so it has a reference to this profile.
