Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Frances (Penny) Partridge was a Virginia colonist.

Frances Penny was born about 1636 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, and was the daughter of Richard Penny and Mary Jewry.

Frances is named as "eldest daughter" in will of her father Richard Penny dated 14 April 1693 and entered for probate on 9 June 1694 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia.[1]

Marriage & Children

Frances married James Partridge probably about 1654 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. Frances was named "Frances Partridge" in the above cited will of her father. In the same will Frances' younger sister Elizabeth is named as Elizabeth Noyall, and Elizabeth's son by first husband Thomas Clarke is also named. This does not mean Frances and Elizabeth married their husbands in 1693. Source for the marriage date of 1693 is Blanche A. Chapman, Marriages of Isle of Wight County. A careful reading of her introduction, however, will warn the reader that the dates she gives are not the actual marriage dates but the dates of documents in which proof of marriage is found, in this case the will of Frances' father.

Although no child of Frances is named in her father's will, she and James may have had one daughter.
