Thomas Penrose, son of Bartholomew Penrose by his wife Esther Leech, was born in Philadelphia, probably January or February, 1709-1710 and died 17 November, 1757, and was interred in Christ Church Buryial Ground in Philadelphia. He was a shipbuilder and a shipping merchant, and traded with foreign ports in ships of which he was a part owner, and from his will...it appears that , at the making thereof, he was an owner of the ship "Britannia," and of other vessels. In 1747 he became a part owner of the brigantine "Greyhound"; in 1750, the ship "Ranger"; in 1753, then ship "Neptune". [1]
He was mentioned in his grandfather Toby Leech (1652-1726)’s Will proved in 1726[2]
Married Sarah Coats on Oct. 21, 1731 [3]
Findagrave has a DOB of 1/17/1710 and DOD of 11/17/1758
He passed away about 17 November, 1757.[4]
Thomas was not mentioned in his father Bartholomew’s Will written in December 1709 and proved in 1711[5] although his three siblings were each mentioned by name, so it is unlikely he was born before December 1709, however provision was made in the Will for any future children born so it is possible Bartholomew was aware that another child might soon be due.
