Biography

The wife of Governor John West was named Anne, but her maiden name is unknown.[1]

Research Notes

According to Douglas Richardson, she was not Anne Claire.

Estimated Birth Year: 1595 is a guess based on her husband's birth given as 1590 (based on his baptism date in December 1590).[1] However, she was probably born after 1600, considering their son John is said to have been born in 1632.[2]

Though commonly found online from older sources, there is absolutely no evidence that Anne West's LNAB is Percy. In fact, there is no contemporary evidence that her supposed father George Percy ever married or had any children at all. It is an old identification (probably intentional fraud) that is no longer accepted. — Joe Cochoit March 26, 2019.

Surname Discussion

Richardson does not give a maiden name for Anne in either his 2011 Magna Carta Ancestry or his 2013 Royal Ancestry.[3][4] Wikipedia names her "...Anne Percy, daughter of George Percy and Anne Floyd."[5]
The source cited by Wikipedia, Early Modern Virginia: Reconsidering the Old Dominion (2011) mentions the marriage in a note without further citation following a mention of Henry Percy:
"Dee was well known to Thomas Hariot and Henry Percy, later 9th Earl of Northumberland (called the "wizard Earl" because of his interest in astronomy and chemistry), and the backers of Drake.[22][6]
"[22] Henry Percy's younger brother George would emigrate to Virginia and serve as deputy governor until 1612. His daughter, Lady Anne Percy, married John West, brother of Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr."[7]
In comments on her husband's profile, a source was provided for John West's wife, mother of his son John, being Anne Claiborne: William C. Simpson's 1998 book about descendants of the Reverend Claude Philippe de Richebourg.[8] The WikiTree profile for the Reverend says he was born in 1670, and the Relationship Finder showed no relationship between him and Anne Claiborne - or John, or John Jr. (as of 9 April 2020).
A Google search 9 April 2020 showed several online trees naming his wife Anne Claiborne (e.g., Ancestry). MyHeritage says John's mother was "Ann Claiborne West (born Percy)". The search also turned up information on John West in The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography - and a daughter Ann of another John West who was the mother of an Ann who married a Claiborne (although I'm not sure how that information could have morphed into this John's Anne being born Claiborne):
Page 423: "John West, brother of Thomas, Third Lord Delaware,... married Anne ______, and had only one child, John West, Jr."
Page 318: Capt. Thomas Claiborne, born 1680, married (his last wife) Anne, daughter of Henry Fox "and his wife Anne, daughter of Col. John West (nephew of Lord Delaware). ... At "Sweet Hall" is a tomb with the Claiborne arms, which is Thomas Claiborne's. "At the same place is the tomb of his last wife:
"Here also lies the body of Mrs. Ann Claiborne late wife of Capt. Thomas Claibrone... born ye 20th day of May 1684...."
Following the information just given, the Mrs. Ann Claiborne mentioned, born in 1684, was the great-granddaughter of this John (John b 1590 -> John Jr. -> Anne m Fox -> Ann m Claiborne).

Claiborne-95 and Unknown-341765 appear to represent the same person because: The LNAB of the wife of John West is Unknown (not Percy or Claiborne)

sources cited are not reliable. Without a reliable source, I think that this profile needs to be detached. Gov. John West had a wife named Anne and they had one son - he had just one son.

Charles, this is a claim for which no contemporary evidence exists and is not accepted.

It appears that Wikipedia & Ancestry are the sources for (3?) wives named Anne with surnames: Anne Percy (1st wife), Anne Claiborne (2nd wife), and Ann Floyd ("Wikipedia does not list wives other than Anne Floyd" from Claiborne-95).

Richardson's Magna Carta Ancestry, volume IV, page 328 WEST 15, and Royal Ancestry, volume V, page 357 WEST 15, both have John West (born 14 Dec. 1590) married to Ann ______ by whom he had one son, John (Richardson does not give a birth year for their son or a marriage date for John & Ann).

@Bobbie, how did you come to conclusion that LNAB is Unknown and not Percy? Please document your thinking on this for the proposed merge in the direction you selected.

Lady Anne Claiborne Percy was born about 1600 in Westover, Pittsylvania, Virginia, USA. She married Capt John West I in 1613 in Port Richmond West Plantation in King William County, Virginia, USA. Their son, Lt. Col. John West II was born 06 June 1632 in Chicksack Bellfield Plantation, York River, New Kent/King William/York County, Virginia, USA. She died 10 Apr 1667 in West Point, King William County, Virginia, USA.

Unfortunately, I don't have any ready sources for this information so I'll leave it here for you in case you'd like to research it.

Percy-972 and Percy-21 appear to represent the same person because: The death dates are very different, but otherwise they seem to be the same person.
