Biography

Ellis Perkins was born on September 22, 1861 at Dryden, Lapeer County, Michigan, USA. He is the son of Cyrus Perkins and Hannah Abernathy.

Ellis marries Minnie (Zieman/Ziemmann). She is the daughter of Otto Zieman Otto and Unknown Mother. The Ziemans had settled on a farm near Munger when they arrived in the United States from Germany.

Ellis dies on July 16, 1936 at Nankin, Wayne, Michigan, United States. Minnie dies in 1949 at Bay City, Bay County, Michigan, USA.

</em>When Ellis Perkins is old enough, he begins working in the lumber industry, which he works in for many years. Ellis Perkins then changes careers and opens a Confectionery business. His store was located near by to a local Town Lumber Mill. This lumber mill later catches fire and burns not only the mill but also Ellis's store to the ground. The family loses everything in this fire, forcing Ellis to find work as a laborer. </em> from "Michigan County Histories."

3. 3. Ida M. Perkins was born in Michigan. Marries first to Unknown Townsend. She marries second to William Blythe.

4. Bessie M Perkins was born on August 8, 1896 at Bay City, Michigan. Bessie marries to Chester Morningstar. Bessie dies on October 27, 1930 at Bay City, Bay, Michigan.

5. Theresa L. M. Perkins was born about 1897 in Bay City, Bay County, Michigan. Theresa marries to Grover Lawson son of Green Lawson and Grover (Unknown) Lawson on April 3, 1919 at Bay, Michigan.

6. Fredrick W Perkins was born on February 7, 1898 at Vassar, Michigan. Fred maries to Grace B. Spear on June 10, 1922 at Bay City, Bay, Michigan. Grace is the daughter of Alden F. Spear and Bertha Underwood. Fred marries second to Ilah M. (Wright) Bryant on August 5, 1938 at Steuben, Indiana. Ilah was born on May 13, 1898 at Hemlock, Michigan. Ilah is the daughter of Robert Wright and Diana Dunbar.

Cyrus Perkins, father of Ellis and Cyrus I.'s grandfather, was one of the early residents of Michigan. When the Civil War began, Cyrus Perkins enlisted in Company K of the Fourth Michigan Cavalry. He served as a Corporal until the end of the war and then returned to Michigan. He was granted a homestead near a town named Munger. Cyrus Perkin marries Hannah (Abernethy) Perkins who was born in Canada. Cyrus and Hannah lived on the farm until their deaths.

Cyrus and Hannah give birth to a son, Ellis Perkins. Ellis Perkins and Minnie Zieman give birth to Cyrus I. Perkins.

Cyrus I. attends school in Bay City. Upon completing his basic education he continues onward and takes additional schooling in Vassar. He later begins working in a Furniture Factory. Over the years he takes on various other jobs until he takes a job working at a hardware store. Cyrus I. works his way up from the bottom to being appointed Manager of the store after the death of it's owner, George H. Hohes. He then forms a partnership with George Hohes son-in-law, becoming part owner of the store.
