Gideon Perkins, son of Joshua Perkins and Hannah Sampson, was born 25 February 1750/1 in Plympton, Massachusetts.[1][2][3][4] However, the date of birth on his headstone reads "March 8, 1751".[5]
Military
Gideon Perkins served with Massachusetts Militia during the American Revolution.
A Private Gideon Perkins of Plympton, Massachusetts, served in Captain William Atwood's company, Colonel Warren's regiment, which marched to Marshfield, Massachusetts, on the 19 April 1775 alarm (service 2 days),[6] however, the Daughters of the American Revolution has not [yet] recognized his service.
Marriages and Children
Gideon married first to Desire Dunham[4] on 23 May 1771 in Plympton, Massachusetts.[1][7] They had the following eight children:[4]
Gideon married second to Meribah (Eaton) Murdock, daughter of Barnabas Eaton and widow of Andrew Murdock, on 3 December 1789 at Middleborough, Massachusetts.[1][8] They had five children:[4]

In 1791, Gideon and Meribah Perkins of Carver sold to David Weston Jr. the land in Middleborough that had been given to Meribah by her father, Barnabus Eaton.[1]
On 12 April 1806 Gideon Perkins of Middleborough, yeoman, sold his farm in Carver to Ebenezer Shurtleff and Meribah gave up her right to dower.[1]
Death and Burial
Gideon Perkins died in Middleborough, Massachusetts on 9 October 1828, aged 78.[1][14] He was buried at Purchade Cemetery, Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.[5]
The Plymouth County Court of Probate appointed Seth Eaton, Esq., of Middleborough as administrator of the Estate of Gideon Perkins on 17 November 1828, with an inventory due 2 February 1829 and accounting due 2 November 1829 and Lysander Wood as surety.[15] Plymouth County probate file #15571: bond of Seth Eaton, Esq., administrator, was posted 17 November 1828 and the inventory, taken 29 November 1828, included no real estate and a personal estate valued at $75.41.[16]
Research Notes
Mayflower Births and Deaths has Gideon's first wife, Desire, dying on 19 May 1789 and the birth of their daughter Sarah on 25 July 1789.[4] One of these dates is obviously incorrect.
